Honorable Prime Minister Tareque Rahman held a meeting with the Ministry and relevant stakeholders regarding the closed mills and factories under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute.

The meeting took place on Monday (May 4) morning at the Prime Minister’s Office within the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat.

Present at the meeting were Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the Prime Minister’s Political and Industrial Affairs Advisor; Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Minister of Commerce, Textiles and Jute; Shariful Alam, State Minister for Textiles and Jute; Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA); and other relevant stakeholders.

It was recently announced by the Ministry that six closed government jute mills would be reopened through private initiative within six months.

The Minister of Textiles and Jute also stated the government’s decision to gradually reopen or lease out the remaining closed jute mills. The government anticipates that this move will not only increase investment but also boost exports and employment.
