The United Nations is set to host two high-level conferences aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property during global disasters and taking effective measures to prevent road accidents. To ensure inclusive participation in these conferences, scheduled for 2026 and 2027, a special accreditation process has now begun.

This information was announced in a press release sent by the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Bangladesh on May 5, 2026.

International Conference on Disaster Protection in Manila

A special conference on ‘The Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters’ will be held in Manila, Philippines, from January 25 to February 12, 2027. The primary objective of this conference is to finalize a legally binding international agreement or instrument to protect individuals affected during disasters.

Opportunities for participation in this conference are available for non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society, the private sector, and academic institutions. Those who do not yet hold consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) can apply for special accreditation by June 12, 2026.

High-level Meeting on Road Safety in New York

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting focused on improving global road safety will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on July 20 and 21, 2026. The main theme of this meeting is to “accelerate the implementation of the commitment to halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes by 2030.”

Various stakeholders and organizations working on road safety have the opportunity to participate in this meeting. However, the deadline for this application process is very short. Interested organizations must complete their applications by May 15, 2026.

    Application Process and Required Information

The United Nations has stated that applications will only be accepted at the institutional level. Individuals cannot apply for this accreditation independently. Only one application will be accepted per organization.

Interested organizations are advised to submit their applications through the ‘Civil Society Platform’. For any information, it is recommended to contact the specified email address ([email protected]).

These conferences are expected to play a crucial role in establishing a global legal framework and achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
